April 2021 Disbursement
Jacksonville University received $3.7 million from the U.S. Department of Education through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. A portion of that money -- $1.1 million -- was designated for Student Aid to be distributed directly to students based on need.
As of April 28, $1,103,900 has been distributed to 1,234 students. 1,234 students met the eligibility requirements to be considered for an Emergency FInancial Aid Grant.
Grant amounts ranged from $700 to $1,000 and were determined based on these criteria:
- Pell-eligible undergraduate students received $1,000 if their EFC was $5,711 or less.
- Pell-ineligible undergraduate students received $750 if their EFC was between $5,712 and $10,000.
- Graduate students received $700 if their EFC was $5,000 or less.
- Students had to be registered on or before December 27, 2020, to be eligible for this grant.

The CARES Act does not allow these funds to be used for international students.

May 2020 Disbursement
Jacksonville University has received $2.2 million from the U.S. Department of Education through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. A portion of that money -- $1.1 million -- will be distributed directly to students based on need until funding is expended.
As of May 13, $822,200 has been disbursed to 1,807 students. 2,208 students meet the eligibility requirement to be considered for an Emergency Financial Aid Grant.
Grant amounts ranged from $150 to $1,000 and were determined in an 'a la carte' fashion based on these criteria:
- All qualified students, regardless of Pell eligibility, got $150 for technology.
- Pell-eligible students received $400 if their EFC was 0 or $150 if their EFC was above 0.
- Pell-eligible students also received $225 if they were living in student housing and an additional $225 if they had a meal plan.
- Students who were not Pell-eligible received $175 if they were living in student housing and an additional $175 if they had a meal plan.

Unfortunately, yes, it is too late to file and receive funding. The funding is intended to assist those enrolled for the spring 2020 semester that filed the FAFSA, expressed need, and have expenses. Please consider submitting a request to the Nellie Fund, which is JU sponsored and supported by generous donors. This fund assists students with emergency financial needs.
The guidelines of the CARES ACT funding from the Department of Education did not allow this federal funding to extend to international students. However, I will direct you to the JU Nellie Fund to apply for emergency funding.
